Host the HTML tool Claude or ChatGPT made you

You asked Claude for an invoice tracker. It works in the preview beside the chat. You add three clients and mark one as paid.

Then your business partner wants to see it. You can copy the code out of the chat. The three clients don't come with it, because they were never in the code.

The same tracker, on a link that saves

Here is that tracker as a Hyperclay document. You send your partner an edit link. They add a fourth client and press Cmd+S. You reload the page, and the fourth client is there. Open the code editor and you'll find that client as a row in the HTML.

That works because the tracker writes each client into the page as a row, and the page saves its own HTML. Hyperclay adds the saving. This tracker needed one change from the AI first, so that it writes its data into the page. Your own tool may already do that. If it doesn't, the prompt under What saves makes the same change.

Put it online in four steps

  1. Pick a plan (from $6 a month), then make a new document from the Blank template.
  2. Open the document menu (the gear at the top of the document) and choose Code. Delete everything in the code editor, paste the HTML your AI wrote, and save.
  3. In the same menu, choose Make malleable.
  4. Share it with a view link or an edit link. Someone with the edit link can add to it and save. Someone with the view link can use it, but their changes aren't saved.

Make malleable adds ClayJS, a script that lets the document save itself. After step 3, the tool saves when you press Cmd+S (Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux).

Now check it. Add an entry and press Cmd+S. When the Saved message shows, open your view link in a private window. If the entry is missing, the tool keeps its data somewhere else, and the prompt under What saves fixes that.

What saves, and what doesn't

ClayJS saves the page's HTML. So anything the tool writes into the page is saved: a row it adds, or a label it changes.

Three kinds of data don't save. Entries kept in browser storage stay in your browser. Values held in JavaScript variables are gone after a reload. Text typed into an input and the tick in a checkbox are lost too, unless the input or checkbox has a persist attribute.

Browser storage can look like it works. Reload in your own browser and your entries are still there. Open the link in a different browser, and they're gone.

The fix is to have the tool keep its data in the HTML. Copy the HTML out of the code editor, give it to your AI with this prompt, and paste the answer back:

Read https://clayjs.com/llms.txt. Then change this tool so it keeps all its data in its own HTML, not in localStorage or JavaScript variables. Put persist on every input, add autosave to the <html> tag, and add ?plugins=sync to the ClayJS script.

autosave saves a moment after each change, so nobody has to press Cmd+S. sync shows a teammate's edits on your screen without a reload.

Your AI can keep editing it

Download the document from its menu, and you get one .html file to hand to your AI. Paste the new version back into the code editor.

Or skip the copying. Hyperclay Local, a free desktop app, syncs your documents to a folder on your computer. Open Claude Code or Codex in that folder and ask for a Due date column. Either one edits the file, Hyperclay Local syncs it up, and your partner sees the new column when they reload.

Where it stops

Hyperclay runs no server code for your tool. So a tool that sends email to other people doesn't fit. Neither does a tool where members of the public log in to one shared copy. A tool that calls a paid API with a secret key doesn't fit either. Anyone who can open the page can read its HTML, and the key with it.

I think this fits tools whose data can live in the page: trackers, checklists, calculators.

If you only want a page online and it never needs to save, a free static host such as GitHub Pages will do. Hyperclay has no free plan.

Plans

There are two paid plans. Personal is $6 a month and Maker is $15 a month. Both include the code editor, Make malleable and share links. For a team workspace, choose Maker. It includes you and 3 editors. Each editor after that is $3 a month, and viewers are free. Either plan comes with a full refund in the first 30 days.

If you move a tool your AI made into Hyperclay, email me at david@hyperclay.com. I'd like to hear what it was and what didn't save.
