A kanban board template that saves into its own HTML

the kanban template with five lists, Ideas, To do, Doing, Review and Done, and one card open showing a checklist at 3/5, a due date and a comment with its author's name

Most HTML kanban templates you download work like this. You drag a card to Done. If it stays there at all, it stays in your browser. Send the link to a teammate, and they see the board as it was.

This board keeps the card in Done for everyone who opens it, because the move is written into the board's HTML file. It's a kanban board for a small team. It runs on Hyperclay, a host I built for HTML files that save their own changes.

The live example is read-only. To drag cards, make your own copy. Hyperclay has no free plan. Personal is $6 a month, or $48 a year. A new copy starts public, like the example, and you can make it private in your Hyperclay dashboard.

If you're signed in, the copy button asks you to name your copy. If you're new to Hyperclay, you choose a plan first, and Hyperclay emails you a checkout link. After you pay, you pick a username and password. Then you land back on the copy page and name your copy.

What you can do on the board

It saves into the page

In your copy, move a card to Done, then open the code editor. The card's HTML now sits inside the Done list. There's no separate database behind the board. The cards are in the file. I call a document that saves its own changes into its HTML a malleable document.

Share the board by link. People with a view link can read the board. People with an edit link can change it, and when one of them moves a card, you see it move without refreshing.

Change it

Change the list colors or the card layout in Hyperclay's code editor.

You can also hand the change to an AI. Sync the board to a folder with Hyperclay Local, a desktop app I made, and ask Claude Code to add a story-points field to each card. Claude Code edits the file, and Hyperclay Local syncs it back to your workspace. Or download the board as an .html file.

Where it stops

There are no automations, no integrations and no calendar view. The only export is the downloaded HTML file. A downloaded board links to its uploaded files and image covers on Hyperclay; they aren't inside the file.

Two people can change different cards at once, and both edits land. If two people change the same card text at once, one of them sees a notice and chooses whose version stays.

I built this for a small team that wants a board it can change. If your team depends on Trello's power-ups and automations, stay with Trello.

Plans

Hyperclay has two plans. Personal is $6 a month. Maker is $15 a month and fits a team. It includes 4 people: you and 3 editors. Each extra editor is $3 a month, and viewers are free. Compare the plans.
